Did You Know? The Child Tax Credit is a form of Guaranteed Income.
The Child Tax Credit (CTC) provides families with direct cash transfers to help cover the costs of raising children, ensuring basic needs. The CTC currently provides up to $2000 per child. In 2021, the CTC was expanded to $3,600 and cut child poverty in half. Congress failed to expand the CTC despite the program’s success.
This election cycle, candidates have been pledging support for some form of an expanded CTC. This is important because the CTC, a form of guaranteed income, shows how direct support helps people meet their needs and have some breathing room. Right now, as living costs keep climbing in Miami-Dade, pushing for guaranteed income is about making sure everyone has the means to get by and look ahead.
Congress let it expire—calling it an “emergency” that’s apparently over. But poverty is still an emergency. This Give Miami Day 2024, let’s push for a social safety net that actually supports people. We need guaranteed income now!
